Face and Eye Shields. Routine veterinary dental work using ultrasonic scalers/polishers and high speed handpieces creates aersol and spatter. The aersol consists of saliva, water, and microbes – plus blood and tooth debris can sometimes be present. Every veterinarian and technician knows that dog and cat bite wounds are readily infected with the plethora of serious bacteria living in the animal’s oral cavity.
Protective eyewear not only protects the eyes, nose, and mouth (with a face shield) from contact with infectious agents, but also against any physical damage from propelled objects including tooth or calculus fragments becoming dislodged.
